Matt was singer, song-writer and played guitar and keyboards in a number of Birmingham based indie bands, with a selection of their output available below.
At the height of Brit-pop Shanghai Noodle Factory/The Shanghais achieved a significant buzz and signed to Goo Records, a subsidiary of Gut (Space, Right Said Fred) and toured extensively with bands such as The Mutton Birds, Aqualung, Heavy Stereo, Ocean Colour Scene and Broadcast. The PR campaign for the first single, ‘Cinema Cyberia’ included appearances on ITV, Live TV and national radio – a highlight being a sold-out industry showcase at Sound Republic in London’s Leicester Square.
The band evolved into Audio Video Disco and then lo-fi prog pop outfit Robot. Following the successful ‘Electric Sheep’ EP and high profile gigs with bands such as Jesus Jones, Fiction Plane (Sting’s son) and Silversun Pickups the band’s track ‘Top Of The World’ was selected as the theme tune for BBC primetime series, ‘Grow Your Own veg’.
